MW4 DMZ FOB System
Disclaimer — Unconfirmed
MW4 has not been officially detailed, and DMZ's return is unconfirmed. The FOB structure below follows the established DMZ Forward Operating Base pattern from Modern Warfare II (2022). Exact MW4 FOB features are flagged unconfirmed.
The FOB (Forward Operating Base) is your home base in DMZ. It is the persistent menu hub between matches — where you manage your stash, pick up faction missions, and upgrade your permanent progression.
What the FOB does
| FOB Function | What it is |
|---|---|
| Stash | Holds contraband and insured weapons you extracted |
| Insured weapon slots | Customizable weapons retrievable on death |
| Faction missions | Pick up and turn in story / faction quests |
| Permanent unlocks | Upgrades that persist across all your DMZ runs |
| Loadout builder | Kit your next deployment before dropping in |
The stash
Your stash is the heart of the FOB. It holds everything you banked from successful extractions. There are two weapon types in the stash:
- Contraband — unique weapons you extracted. Cannot be modified, but they are free to use and you keep them permanently.
- Insured — your custom-built weapons with chosen attachments. If you die with one, it goes on cooldown before you can redeploy it.
See our stash & crafting guide for the full breakdown of contraband vs insured.
Insured weapon slots
This is the FOB's most important upgrade path. Insured weapons are your best, custom-tuned loadout — the ones you actually want to use. But you only get a limited number of insured slots, and dying puts them on cooldown.
Upgrading the FOB (usually via faction reputation) unlocks more insured slots. More slots means more flexibility — you can run a primary, a secondary and a backup insured weapon without dipping into contraband.
Operator Tip
Early in your DMZ career, prioritize FOB upgrades that unlock insured weapon slots. They are the single biggest quality-of-life improvement in the mode.
Faction missions at the FOB
You pick up faction missions at the FOB before deploying. Each faction offers a rotating set of objectives — some are quick one-run tasks, others are multi-stage story missions. Completed missions turn in at the FOB for reputation and rewards.
How to upgrade the FOB
FOB upgrades are typically gated behind faction reputation. To grow your FOB:
- Pick faction missions at the FOB.
- Complete and extract with the mission items.
- Turn in at the FOB to bank reputation.
- Reputation unlocks new FOB tiers — more stash space, more insured slots, new mission tiers.
This is why DMZ is not just "drop and loot" — the FOB ties your runs into a persistent progression loop.
FOB vs in-match
A key distinction:
- FOB — persistent, between matches. Your stash, upgrades and mission board live here forever.
- In-match — temporary. Loadout, contraband you are carrying, and cash you have not banked are all at risk until you exfil.
Warning
Anything not in your FOB when you die is at risk. Treat the FOB as the only "safe" — your stash is permanent, your in-match loadout is not. Extract often.
